The denture is a treasure that must be protected from infancy and nothing better to preserve a nice smile throughout life that teaching the children oral hygiene methods in an enjoyable and fun way.
Based on the fact that children learn behaviors and habits from their parents, the ideal thing is that both children and parent brush their teeth together using their own toothbrushes, this way the children will build a habit that will help protect their teeth and gums.
It is important to brush the teeth at least twice a day, using toothpaste which is duly authorized by the health authorities, to remove plaque and thereby reduce the risk of tooth decay.
Although this procedure is part of our daily life, it is worth remembering that there are some simple but important steps to follow in order to achieve a proper oral hygiene:
- Check the children brush their teeth at least twice a day.
- After four years, use floss daily to prevent bacterial plaque to be formed between teeth.
- Use mouthwash before or after brushing.
- Use fluoride toothpaste.
- Add fluoridated salt to water if it doesn’t naturally have the proper amounts of fluoride.
- Prevent your kids to swallow the toothpaste.
- Clean the chewing surface and the inner and outer parts of each tooth by placing the brush at a right angle to the outer gum.
In addition to a necessary and fun cleaning, it is important to take other precautions to ensure the oral health of the children in certain circumstances. For example:
- Applying a sealant, where there is a crack. A sealant is a thin plastic coating which is applied to the chewing surfaces of children’s molar teeth. The application is not painful.
- Diet: It should be balanced in order the child develops strong teeth resistant to decay. Foods, and specially sweets, between meals, are the worst enemies of the teeth.
- Pain: If the child feels pain in the mouth it is possible a tooth has broken or chipped, you should take him immediately to the dentist. If a child accidentally lost a tooth, take it to the dentist; it may be reimplanted.
